Re: 200 Colborne Street West, Heritage Permit Application, Proposed Front and Side Yard Iron Fence

Manbir Sehmi provided a presentation regarding the Heritage Permit Application for 200 Colborne Street West. Highlights of the presentation included:

  • information about the property;
  • details about the heritage permit application; and,
  • details about the proposed fence.

Discussion ensued regarding ensuring the fencing in the rear yard maintained a heritage design.

    That the Heritage Whitby Advisory Committee supports the Heritage Permit Application for 200 Colborne Street West for an iron fence in the front and side yards subject to a heritage design approved by Staff.

There were no delegations.

Councillor Bozinovski provided an update regarding:

  • the Feed the Need Campaign;
  • implementing the Administrative Penalties System through Enforcement Services; and,
  • traffic disruptions due to road construction on Winchester Road between Durham Street and Watford Street/Anderson Street.

Margaret Clayton provided an update regarding the proposed name change of the Pioneer Baptist Cemetery to the Dryden Cemetery. Ms. Clayton stated that the matter would be brought before Council at the Committee of the Whole meeting on September 16, 2024. 

Deanna Hollister requested feedback from the Committee regarding additional heritage updates.

Discussion ensued regarding:

  • 730 Anderson Street as a property of interest;
  • updates to the process for adding properties to the Municipal Heritage Register;
  • public awareness about owning a heritage property and strategies to dispel misinformation; and,
  • updates about the Rowe House restorations, historic plaques on properties designated under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act, Station Gallery, and a Port Whitby Heritage Conservation District Study.
